Antique Pillow Figural Needle Lace Royal Society Silk
$299.00

A rare combination of needle work, that will take your breath away. I'll do my best to describe this incredible piece, a true collector's item, to be treasured and enjoyed! The fine creamy natural linen is fine handkerchief weight, attached to beautiful golden yellow silk, and then the pillow backing is of the same silk. The center is a diamond enclosing a most beautifully embroidered figure of a young lady smelling a flower stitched in royal society silk embroidery. Detailed embroidery in her facial features, hand, collar and cuff as well as a larger flower in her hair in society silk stitching with needle worked lace in the petals. The bars are needlework buttonhole stitched. She seems to be in her garden, surrounded different foliage and flowers. Outlining all is a unique silk wrapped stitch. Then the linen extends to a further needle lace medallion with graduated eyelet circles, this outlining stitch on the inside of the medallion is worked in the same silk but a even more unusual braided and wrapped stitch. Then more needle lace with larger white and champagne color society silk work flowers on the 4 points. Each corner is filled with needle lace circles radiating from a tiny snowflake center. More silk wrapped outlining around the circles. There are few broken brides and the silk of the pillow backing has a bit of wear through at the corner edges and a few small spots on the back. You can see traces of the original grey blue used to mark the design. I hope you can see all in the photo. The detail in her features remind me of Appenzell work. I'm sure you can tell that I've labored over giving you an accurate description...and it was truly delightful labor of love. I'm so grateful to be able to find and study these incredible works of art! Oh yes, it measures 15" x 15 3/8" and the bottom is not seamed together and still has some hand basting stitches. The pillow insert is not included. Feel free to make any inquiries. Thank you for visiting!
