| This beautiful English duvet/eiderdown is covered on one side with a beautiful colorful Victorian toile of neoclassic swags and garlands on a neutral pale taupe background. It was most likely custom made. This much older style was rare in that it was used with a blanket cover,having button holes along the edges so that it could be buttoned on to the sides (and the strap near the top) of the eiderdown to protect it from wear and the sleeper's body oils ! Photo 2 shows the strap and (photo 3 has been darkened) shows the decorative cover sheet buttoned on at the turndown. Having explained all this ... It is not necessary to use the button on sheet! I just wanted to give you the history ! The buttons have been moved around to accomodate different covers. However,if you would like a vintage cover of this type,I have several a, shown with vintage wool blankets.Photo 6, shows a tan 30" X 16" fabric attached at the bottom edge of the eiderdown to tuck it in snuggly under the mattress,! It is filled withe fluffiest down and I should note that the fabric is so finely woven there is no loss of down when it is washed! Finally, it measures 59" X 80",meant to float just on top of bed not fall over the sides, and is freshly laundered ! | ||
