I loved studying the simple but precise stitches in this "learning" piece. I imagine the young lady as she practiced the basic stitches here as well as using them to hand bind the work with the T-tiny stitches into a case for her night clothes. Some of the stitches she learned here were Antique seam, running stitch, back stitch, plain hem, french seam, binding seam, whipping, drawn hemstitching, buttonhole stitch...whew!Oh, and her monogram in turkey red tiniest counted stitch! For the love of Dogs! This Victorian collectible certainly looks like man's best friend. It has a glow that makes me think it's pewter rather than spelter. The old red velvet cushion seems to be original, and has been restitched with some of the original sawdust leaked out. I actually have the sawdust and will refill and stitch if you prefer. Such a fine addition to your dog or sewing implement collection!

Signed FT Sewell 1904, this pair of Cornish Indians with hand painted colors is wonderful! They seem to have been from a poultry or bird book, with some description on the reverse side. Exotic poultry is always quite desirable, and this pair shows handsomely in their vintage frames with hanging rings on top. The mats appear to be amatuer. I just discovered some fun information about these rare birds but want to make sure it's true!

From the Empire Porcelaine Co., Stoke on Trent, England, this platter is appropriatly named "Orchard" as you can see the beautiful pears, grapes, apples, and oranges as well as lush foliage. My research places it early 1900's. This would make a beautiful addition for your collection. If you collect cobalt blue, we have French cobalt egg cups, as well as the British silver plate on cobalt salt and pepper shown in the photo. 13 1/2" X 10 3/4
