This incredible hand painted box, possibly from 19th c. or earlier, is hand crafted. The colors in places are vibrant and in worn areas muted, there seems to have been initials on the top which is very worn and has loss of painted design. The top is hinged with pegs, and it is joined by handmade nails, shaped like narrow triangles, you can see the tops in several photos, and in 4th photo. The crossed inserts, creating compartments are not original ,but not offensive...

I couldn't resist this unusual majolica creamer and sugar I purchased in Brussels.The colors are so reminiscent of the colors we often find on old conch shells on the coast.
